Lisbon Treaty: Will War Criminal Tony Blair become President of the European Union?

by James Corbett, Global Research, Oct 3, 2009

Major media outlets from the BBC in Britain to RTE in Ireland are now reporting that the Yes side scored a resounding victory in Ireland’s vote Friday on the EU Lisbon Treaty. With the treaty’s ratification, the obstacles preventing the total federalization of the EU superstate are now removed.

As the Daily Mail reported earlier this week, one of the first orders of business for the post-Lisbon EU will be to appoint Tony Blair as the first President of the European Union. This move has been fully expected ever since Tony Blair’s highly suspect conversion to Catholocism two years ago. Of course, the many laudatory pieces (and even the adversarial ones) we are likely to read about Mr. Blair in the coming weeks will signally fail to mention that he has been accused of numerous war crimes and crimes against humanity including:

– Continuing economic sanctions imposed on Iraq from 1990 until its invasion at the hands of his government in 2003 that resulted in the deaths of 500,000 Iraqi children.

– Conspiracy to join with another power in a war of aggression (the supreme international war crime).

– High treason in manufacturing a case for war (including the infamous Downing Street Memo).

– Participating in a political and military coalition with the U.S. in Iraq that deployed controvened weapons like white phosphorus.

Who can doubt the credentials of Tony Blair to become the first president of Europe? As a prime minister, he had made sure to be the true inheritor of Thatcher. He not only followed her rightist legacy but also changed the name and character of the Labour Party. In this process, he isolated radical, anti-capitalist Labour Members of Parliament. This he did with a view to putting his own cronies in key positions who were to prove his loyal allies in carrying out his political agenda.

He became a co-conspirator with Bush to deceive the British people as well the rest of the world in unleashing a criminal war of aggression against Iraq. As a war criminal he, with his mentor Bush, is responsible for the deaths of 1, 3 million Iraqis and the destruction Iraq. He was not only Bush’s Poodle; he was his hunting dog who even excelled his master in fabricating lies and selling a genocidal war against an Islamic Arab country.

Since leaving No. 10, this New Crusader was rewarded for his services; he was made a peace envoy to work for peace in the Middle East! But what did he do? He closely followed the path of Bush/Cheney/Rice in supporting Israeli occupation, illegal settlements on the occupied Palestinian land in accordance with Zionist agenda and propaganda.

The Economist recently referred to the candidacy of the Belgian prime minister as “comical” while Tony Blair’s would be quite good for the EU standing next to the US. While Blair is a good choice as a figure head, the Belgian prime minister is perhaps superior in negotiating common positions (which is necessary in divided Belgium). I have just posted on what might be behind the British position here. http://euandus3.wordpress.com/2009/11/19/228
